R&D Department helps the police in solving a murder

The fate of the 10-year-old Mirko (a boy in Germany who went missing and was later found dead) kept the police busy from September 2010 until the arrest of the offender in January 2011. In early December 2010 our R&D department was asked by an official of the German Police for assistance in the analysis of fibre traces.
The pieces of fibre, which were only visible with a microscope, had to be quickly analysed and clearly identified in order to confirm a previous result. In addition to light microscopy techniques, scanning electron microscopy and FTIR-microscopy were also used. However, the results of our R&D specialists differed significantly from those already present. This led to a new assessment, which helped to find the murderer.
He was sentenced to lifetime prison in October 2011.

The police officers sent us severe thank for our help and cooperation.
